Mold/Microbial Remediation

Got Mold?  If you see what appears to be physical mold growth the first and best course of action is to either completely contain it with plastic (6 mil or thicker) and duck tape seal the plastic without disturbing the mold, then call us.  Or to make it easier on yourself and possibly a whole lot less expensive, just call us first.

The issue is if you are not properly trained, have the proper mold-on-wall-1containment and equipment, and have experience with the procedures, you can contaminate the entire inside of the structure that can lead to problems in other areas of the building.  The picture to the right is a home of a do-it-yourselfer attempt to remediate mold growing around his water heater in the basement next to the HVAC air handler.  The spores from the mold were distributed through the entire house and upon returning from the family vacation, they found the entire house and all of it contents affected by toxic mold!

We will work with you, and your insurance company if you have coverage, to ensure that the problem is remediated (removed) following the industry standards (IICRC S520 – Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Mold Remediation) by trained and certified mold remediators.  Be aware – In many cases you will find that remediation companies do not spend the money on training and certifying their technicians for mold remediation because of the expense and just the owner or manager of the company has been trained.  Ask to see credentials!  This matter is too serious and costly to have someone that is not a certified professional overseeing the remediation.

mold-on-wall-2Mold itself is not the problem for most people.  Molds job in nature is to turn organic matter back into soil, basically being nature’s organic recycler.  Without it we would have trees and other organic matter stacked up from prehistoric times if you think about it!  The problem for humans is that there are some molds that emit mycotoxins to defend against other molds taking over their territory.  Kind of like the Hatfields and McCoys if you will.  These mycotoxins are said to create allergic reactions in some people that could possibly lead to other symptoms or illness.  There is no way to know ahead of time what a persons reaction will be or how serious, so the best way to avoid is to stay out of the environment without proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).  In extreme case there can be molds present that are emitting mycotoxins that the government classify as chemical warfare!

Without proper testing there is no way to know exactly which strains are present and if they are at toxic levels or not.  Most times it is just a matter of proper containment and air pressure differentials while removing unsalvageable materials and cleaning up the affected areas.  Post verification testing is always prudent to verify the cleanup was successful.

Even before mold shows up there can be other microbial issues developing in wet or high humidity environments.  It is the issue of bacteria and viruses that are invisible except for the odors that are produced by the bacteria.  If it smells, then there are gram-negative bacteria present and bacterial infection is possible is our rule of thumb.  This is not avoided by just leaving the environment as with mold!  It goes with you and creates an opportunity to infect others.  In some cases you can pick up a virus and not have symptoms, but pass the virus to others without knowing it!

That is why proper thorough cleaning and microbial elimination is so important.  And we are the really, really good at it!  It is amazing how quickly the odor disappears when Aqueous Ozone shows up!!!

We also offer emergency service priority contracts for commercial or residential clients that want to know that in the face of an emergency they will have priority service response with prior agreed terms and pricing.  This allows us to shift into high gear immediately after receiving a call from an authorized and designated representative(s).  No more wasting time on paperwork and negotiations while the damage gets worse, just swift emergency response to get the problem taken care of!

thermal-camera-2As a part of the emergency service priority contract we will do complimentary thermal imaging inspections of the entire property on an annual basis for problems waiting to happen that are not always apparent until it’s to late.  If we find the issues while they are small or about to happen it can save time, money and a lot of grief.  We can also assist you in updating your emergency planning so that everyone will know what to do if an emergency arises.  This is very important and is seldom given a thought until the disaster strikes or there is a problem.

We also offer all clients on contract with us to have their property management staff attend courses that we put our people through free of charge.  One of the questions that we hear from property management professionals such as the building engineers is, “How do I know when it is something we can handle and when it is best to have professional help from a restoration company?  Where do we set the bar?!”

Attending these courses helps you to know what is required by industry standards and gives you the ability to intelligently make those decisions.  The courses are taught by instructors especially chosen by our founding members.
